We booked a 6 days grovy grape tour from Alice Springs to Adelaide (Rock to Water). And as we got a lot of non german speeking friends and as Del was always angry when we spoke german ;-) the next blog is in english!
First of all: I really enjoyed the tour! We had great fun in the group, saw a lot if nice places, were hiking in the desert and had a really wonderful, good cooking, funny tourguide and he really knows much about the places we've visited! (thats enough compliment now for u Del! )
But let's start at the beginning!
The first days starts early for us. Pick up at 6.30 a.m. After we put our luggage in the trailer we first met the rest of the group because we were one of the last pick up points. A lot of german speaking people, a few girls from the UK and some people from Denmark and Norway. All in one we were a group of different experience, language and age and i love u all :-)
After about an hour our first stop was at a camel farm to go to the toilet and riding a camel. As it was really cheap Hannah did this and really enjoyed it.
Then we drove to our first campground and prepared lunch. After that we had some spare time in the pool together with a beautiful scorpion and we could have a sightseeing flight over Kings Canyon if we would like to. In the evening we had a very tasty dinner (like every evening) and a campfire. Our first night in the swags was really exiting and way too short as we had to get up at 4 a.m. !
We had to leave the campground at 5 a.m. to get to Kings Canyon in time to see the beautiful sunrise. It was really nice and we were all glad to survive "heartattack - hill" the first 200m of the hike in the Canyon. All in one we had a 3h hike which was really enjoyable especially because it wasn't too hot in the morning. The main thing we learned at that walk: No matter what u are doing in Australia, you'll probably die, so no worries ;-) Our next stop was the campground in Yulara, the Resort close to Kata Tjuta nationalpark. We spent two nights there. After unpacking we left the campground straight to the aborigine cultural center and Uluru. We had a beautiful walk round Ayers Rock and Del had quiet a lot of interesting information for us. After a few ours walk we went back to the bus to go to a better location for seeing the world famous sunset over Uluru. It was definately worth it! Back at the campground we had a really good dinner again and fellt asleep very soon.
The next day started at 4 o'clock again because we wanted to see the sunrise over Uluru and Kata Tjuta were we were also going for a nice hike. The afternoon was free for us again and some of our group members were skydiving over Uluru. Hannah an me went "shopping in Yularas Towncenter" and found quite a few beautiful things. Hannah found her outback hat :-)
Now we were expecting two days of driving and many hours in the bus as we are heading south. After packing the morning after we were in the bus for about 800k to have lunch in Cooper Pedy. Then we spend some time with lots of information at an Opal Museum where I bought a beautiful necklace and Hannah bought earrings. In our spare time we were seaching for opal ourselves and found at least a few nice stones :-P before we went to a kangaroo sanctuary. It is owed by a beautiful couple who treats the baby kangaroos like their own kids. We were allowed to pet the animals and even get kissed by one of the babys. In the evening we went out for dinner and hat a pretty good pizza before we went to the undergroundpub in the city. By then we had lovely 35 degrees outside!!
Lucky us we spent the night in an underground hostel as well so it wasn't that hot while sleeping and a great experience.
On our last full day we spent on the road again to a campground about 200k from Adelaide in the Hills. We unpack our stuff befor we went to a hike at Alligator Creek. In the evening we prepared our last dinner together and spent some time partying together as we were allowed to sleep a bit longer in the morning.
The last day starts with a good brekky and I tasted vegemite the first time... you can eat it if u have to :-P Then we had to pack everything proper befor we left for a wine tastery and a nice lunch in the park.
